@Will McLoughlin: While SP3 may have caused the problem, you may have had an issue prior to SP3. Not specific to SP3, I've heard of some losing desktop icons because an update went through but 99.9999% of those installed the update without an issue.

Thought of wiping and starting from scratch? Have you checked the codes from the BSOD? Not doing this ain't helping. Google the codes.

I'm not technical! My PC is custom with AMD chip and winfast motherboard. All OK till microsoft auto updates put SP3 on my machine. Now I suffer with randon crashes, frequent blue screens and stop numbers, doesn't log off properly and wants to check C drive every time I boot up.

Totally frustrated! Thank for your tech stuff on your blog but its over my head. Do I have to buy more from the people who messed up?

AM2+ Phenom 3.0 GHz x4 940 Quad, MSI K9A2-CF-F MOBO, SP3 Installed and constant rebooting after I installed MSI Dual Core Center Utility. I will try removing my USB keyboard & mouse, I will also try the intelppm removal tool. I've tried SP3 several times & the same BS. Say a prayer for me please.

I am one of the users that has a custom built AMD PC. I have the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe and my problem was 100% the same as what you had listed as AMD problem #2. (Reboot loop) Before trying the solution, there was no way I could get to Windows, all Safe Mode and Normal modes failed. I watched the log and it would crash at Windows/Drivers/fsbts.sys and reboot. First solution I tried different was I unplugged my wireless USB mouse (it has a PS/2 adapter I use) - Put in a regular 1gig kingston flash drive from walmart on the top USB port - It loaded slowly in safe mode, but it worked. I restored my computer back to before I installed service pack 3. I restarted my computer to see if it runs normally, and it's working so far.

Thank you so much for this. Knowing me I would have bought a new mobo and tried to get all my old files onto a new hard drive and started over!

Hey, thanks, I hooked up a standard Kingston 8 GB flash drive and it booted right away. I think I am going to take my motherboard out back and go "Office Space" on it.

got a pc here with asus a7v40-mx and amd cpu who is stopping with lsass.exe error (missing or dammage OR execution error ) when booting ... monthly problem, reformat twice, replace hard disk, and problem reappeared .... I am thinking of flashing bios...we are at version 1 and version 5 is avalaible.... what do you thinking...thanks

Thanks for the tip, this resolved all of our bluescreen issues with AMD based Optiplex 740's from Dell.

A small word of note. As full support for Windows XP dies on April 14, 2009, so does the free support to install SP3.

I am just one of the many computer techs out there working on a Presario SR1538X. Installed SP3 like I have done so many times before. Ran into the problem as outlined here. Tried various things in msconfig-nojoy. Uninstalled & it was back to working. Found your info-very detailed I might add. Used the VBS & disabled the intelppm. Reinstalled SP3. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Great info guys, here is my situation, i am trying to boot an xp sp3 install disk, so i follow the usual operation for copying the files to the hard drive, when the computer reboots to finish installation it says "cannot find operating system" any ideas how i can fix this?

I've tried all the fixes listed on this site, but I am still getting this error whenever I boot in non-safe mode:

"Stop 0x00000050 Page Fault In Non-Paged Area"

I have tested my RAM on another computer and it worked fine.

I'm running a Amd Athlon XP 3500+ CPU with an ATI Radeon x700.

I have tried every solution i've come across with no success and all I can do is boot in safe mode.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.
